Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG for uploads
iPhones save photos as HEIC, which keeps them small, but many upload forms reject it, and Chrome can't display it. Here are your options, from changing a setting on your iPhone to converting photos as you upload them.
Why HEIC causes trouble
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) stores photos at about half the size of JPG at similar quality, which is why iPhones use it by default. But many websites only accept JPG or PNG, and Chrome on Windows and Mac cannot open HEIC files at all, so sites that preview your photo show nothing.
Convert as you upload with Krisox Pro
- Choose your HEIC photo in any upload form.
- Krisox asks "Convert 1 HEIC photo?" with JPG selected; choose PNG instead if you need lossless.
- Pick a level; each shows the resulting size.
- Click "Upload compressed". The website receives a JPG named like the original, for example IMG_1234.jpg.
What happens to the photo
- It is decoded inside your browser; the photo is never sent to Krisox or a converter.
- Rotation is applied, so portrait photos stay upright.
- Location data (GPS) and other metadata are removed as the JPG is created.
- If a site only accepts PNG, Krisox converts to PNG automatically.
Without Krisox
- On your iPhone: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible saves new photos as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC.
- On a Mac: open the photo in Preview and use File → Export, choosing JPEG.
- On Windows: the Photos app can open HEIC once the HEIF Image Extensions are installed from the Microsoft Store, and save a copy as JPG.
- Online converters work too, but they upload your photo to their servers.
Questions
Is HEIC conversion free?
Converting HEIC is part of Krisox Pro, like other format conversions. Compressing JPG and PNG photos one at a time is free.
Does converting lose quality?
At Light, the difference is hard to see. The JPG is often larger than the HEIC, because HEIC is the more efficient format; Krisox shows each size before you choose.
What about Live Photos?
Krisox converts the still photo. The motion part of a Live Photo is a separate video and is not included.
Krisox is a browser extension for Chrome. Compressing one file at a time is free; converting formats and compressing several files at once are part of Krisox Pro.
