Compress PNG and screenshots privately

Screenshots are PNGs, and screenshots capture whatever was on screen: bank balances, messages, account numbers, other people's names. That's exactly the kind of image you shouldn't hand to a compressor website. Krisox works on PNGs inside your browser tab, in the upload form you're already using.

Why it matters for PNG

Most online compressors and converters work by uploading your file to their servers, processing it there and sending a copy back. While it's there, it's covered by their privacy policy and retention rules, not yours, and it may pass through other companies' storage and networks.

With screenshots, the risk is what's in them. A screenshot of a payment, an ID or a private conversation uploaded to a converter is a copy you no longer control.

How Krisox compresses PNG

PNG is lossless: every pixel is kept exactly. So Krisox makes a PNG smaller by reducing its dimensions to the level you choose, and keeps it a lossless PNG.

That means big PNGs (camera-sized images, 4K screenshots) shrink a lot, while a small screenshot may have nothing to gain; Krisox then keeps the original and says so.

Usually better: convert PNG (Pro)

If a form only accepts JPG or PDF, Krisox Pro converts automatically and labels it "Auto-converted to match site requirements".

Check it yourself

  1. Open Chrome's developer tools (Cmd+Option+I on a Mac, Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows) and choose the Network tab.
  2. Upload a file on any site and let Krisox compress or convert it.
  3. You'll see the website's own upload, and no request from Krisox carrying your file: Krisox never sends files anywhere.

Questions

Why did my screenshot not get smaller?

If it's already under the level's pixel limit, there's nothing to remove without losing detail. Convert it to JPG or WebP (Pro) for a big saving.

Does Krisox keep transparency?

Yes, as PNG, WebP or PDF. Only JPG has no transparency; those areas become white.

Is it free?

Compressing one file at a time is free. Converting between formats, and compressing several files at once, are part of Krisox Pro.
